Insurance and Fees

What are your rates?

I charge $ 250 for an hour of treatment. This rate is in line with the recommended rates of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) for Doctoral level Psychologists. An hour of treatment includes 50 minutes of direct client contact, in-person or virtually, and 10 minutes of documentation, note writing and other client-entered activities.

A sliding scale may be offered on a limited basis and in exceptional circumstances for clients whose financial situation prohibits them accessing psychological services. There is a waitlist for clients on a sliding scale.

What is the difference between a Psychologist (C. Psych.) and a Psychotherapist (RP)

The main differences between a Psychologist and a Psychotherapist are the educational and training requirements, scope of practice and specific expertise in the treatment of mental health conditions.

Doctoral Psychologists have a PhD in Psychology, and have completed over 1000 + hours of clinical experience in their practicum and/or clinical residency training. Psychologists, unlike other master level health practitioners, must obtain specific training in the populations they intend to work with. Psychologists can conduct assessments and diagnose people with mental health conditions, in addition to providing specialized treatment.

Psychotherapists (RPs), on the other hand, usually have a Master's degree in counselling and are trained to provide talk-based therapy to help people improve their mental health and functioning. Psychotherapists cannot diagnose nor provide assessments for mental health conditions.

Are your services covered by insurance?

While Psychological Services are not covered by OHIP, most extended Health Insurance plans, such as those carried by several employers, provide at least partial coverage for psychological services to families and individuals.

I am registered with the College of Psychologists  and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), and the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), which means that my services are covered by private insurance. You may contact your insurance provider for more information. After each appointment, I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
